Sydney Airport, officially known as Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, is the busiest Australian Airport, serving 16,000 passengers an hour. Most of the flights arriving and departing Sydney are domestic flights. However, Sydney is the main gateway to Australia, serving 10 million international passengers each year.

Melbourne Airport, officially known as Melbourne Tullamarine Airport, offers both domestic and iternational flights. It is the second busiest airport in Australia. While Brisbane International Airport is the main gateway for international travelers arriving in Queensland, Golden Coast Airport, also known as Coolangatta Airport, is of major importance for those who need to take a domestic flight. This smaller airport connects Brisbane to Adelaide, Melbourne, Newcastle and Sydney as well as Perth and Canberra via Sydney.

There are a number of airlines around the world that offers cheap airline tickets to Australia. Among these airlines are JetStar and Virgin Blue Airlines.

JetStar is an international airline operating from countries like Singapore, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Japan, among others. It also operates within Australia itself. It claims to be the newest airline to fly to Australia, having started within Asia only in 2004. It is wholly owned by Qantas, but it is operating independently from the parent airline.

Virgin Blue is another "young" airline, having started flying only in the start of the new millennium. It claims to be the first airline with the cheapest rates in Australian domestic flights. Its international operations started when it launched Pacific Blue, its New Zealand based international airline. The airline is owned by Virgin Group.

The three main airlines offering domestic flights are Qantas Airlines, Regional Express and Virgin Blue. Virgin Blue is a low cost airline which offers flights to cities in all Australian regions and territories. Regional Express, commonly known as Rex, is the largest independent airline in Australia, offering flights to cities located in New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria, while Qantas Airlines offer flights to cities located in all Australian regions and territories. There are also a number of small airlines which operates in different regions and territories.
